On December 7, a “Lucid Dongting Lake” volunteer service campaign was launched at Baling Square beside Yueyang Tower. More than 400 volunteers picked up litters along the lake bank, calling for protecting the “mother lake”. 

 

This campaign was hosted by the Yueyang Municipal People’s Government, led by the Yueyang Urban Management Bureau, and organized by the Yueyang Sanitation Center. The Yueyanglou District Government, Yueyang Civilization Office, the Communist Youth League Yueyang Committee, and local authority of maritime affairs participated. It aimed to call for public awareness of protection Dongting Lake environment. 

 

The volunteers in uniform were divided into groups to collect litters such as paper scraps, beverage bottles, cigarette ends, and packing wastes in grasses. They also publicized environmental protection knowledge to passersby, and invited them to join the campaign, so as to jointly protect the mother lake, and build Yueyang into a clean city. 

 

In recent years, the CPC Yueyang Municipal Committee and the Yueyang Municipal People’s Government have resolutely implemented Xi Jinping Thought on ecological progress, and persisted in “promoting well-coordinated environmental conservation and avoiding excessive development”, and thoroughly carried out actions to protect Dongting Lake environment, so as to create a new pattern of ecological development. Today’s Dongting Lake, with lucid water and long-lost cowfishes, presents a charming scene that described in Chinese ancient poet Fan Zhongyan’s masterpiece Remarks of Yueyang Tower.
