The 2019 Hunan Urban and Rural Environmental Governance Forum – Waste Classification Sub-Forum was held in Changsha on October 16. The forum tells that Hunan is formulating related regulations and measures to expand the coverage of household waste classification, and improve supporting facility, step by step; and some key exemplary zones and areas will be highlighted.

The forum was organized by the Hunan Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the Hunan Urban-Rural Development Society. Experts and scholars shared the waste classification modes and experiences in Shanghai, Xiamen, Hangzhou, and Changsha, and gave lectures about top-level design and environmental sanitation market upgrades.

Hunan is in the early stages of household waste classification. As one of the 46 national key cities to enforce household waste classification, Changsha has complete waste disposal facility, which will help push and guide waste classification. According to the Changsha Urban Management and Law Enforcement Bureau, a household waste integrated disposal (pollution-free burning) project with a daily capacity of 5,000 tons has being operated since 2018. It works in three steps: breaking trash bag and pressing the wastes; anaerobic fermentation; and, sludge-gas utilization. The reusable items are encouraged to be put into market. “Internet + junks” and “Internet + recycle utilization” business modes are promoted, and relevant enterprises are greatly supported. The harmful wastes have to be disposed through professional and standard procedures, under the guidance and supervision of related authorities.
