Du Jiahao, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, respectively met with Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) chief executive; and Wang Zhimin, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (LOCPG HK) on April 15 and 16, 2019.

Secretary Du thanked HKSAR Government and LOCPG HK for their support to the Hunan-Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) Investment and Trade Conference. He said Hunan and Hong Kong have a long history of exchanges and cooperation. Hong Kong has always been Hunan’s largest source of foreign investment. Now, the GBA construction has been put to the height of a national strategy, which will be regarded as a major opportunity for Hunan to accelerate its development.

The Hunan delegation’s visit to Hong Kong aims to hold the Hunan-GBA Investment and Trade Conference, and actively participate in the GBA construction. Delegates take the opportunity to visit noted personages from the business and industrial sectors in Hong Kong. They particularly want to learn from Hong Kong the sound experiences in scientific and technological innovation, and culture and education, Du remarked.

“We hope the HKSAR Government will continue to comprehensively deepen cooperation with Hunan in such fields as finance, trade, tourism, science and technology, and education. We are looking forward to receiving continuous concerns and cares from LOCPG HK, and sincerely expect it will promote Hunan-GBA, especially Hunan-Hong Kong exchanges and cooperation in various fields. We hope that the prosperity and development of both sides will thus be better promoted,” he added.

Chief Executive Lam congratulated on the successful convening and the fruitful results. She noted that the completion of the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed rail will provide a more convenient channel for the economic and trade cooperation and personnel exchanges between Hong Kong and Hunan. She expected both sides to explore new cooperation paths and models in the fields of economy, trade, science and technology, and finance, based on mutual respective characteristics. This would realize complementary advantages and common development.

Director Wang remarked that Hunan responded to the connection with GBA in a very fast and effective way, and LOCPG HK would fully support and promote pragmatic cooperation between Hunan and Hong Kong.

Tan Tieniu, LOCPG HK deputy director; Patrick Nip Tak-kuen, secretary for HKSAR Government Constitutional and Mainland Affairs; and, Hunan provincial leaders Hu Henghua and He Baoxiang attended the meetings respectively.
