Hunan Inbound Tourism Market Booming in First 11 Months

The inbound tourism market is a key indicator of Hunan’s construction of an all-for-one tourism base and a well-known tourist destination at home and abroad. It is also an important basis for Hunan to build itself into a tourism and opening-up powerhouse. The Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism told on December 24 that from January to November this year, Hunan received more than 4.4 million inbound tourist trips and achieved a revenue of over 2 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 27.11% and 35.76% respectively. The number of inbound tourists and revenue both reached the targets of 4 million trips and 1.7 billion USD set out in the Hunan tourism industry’s “13th Five-Year Plan”.
 
Hunan has been promoting opening up and development through cultural tourism since the beginning of this year. It has organized innovative cultural tourism cooperation and exchange activities in major tourist destinations where the international routes were opened; the countries who were on the list of the Changsha four-hour aviation economic circle; and the countries along the “Belt and Road” route. “Splendid Xiaoxiang” has become a more popular, prestigious and influencing brand. 
 
The structure of inbound tourist presents a “new normal” of diversified development. The number of foreign tourists surpassed that of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan visitors. In the first eleven months, the number of foreign tourists increased by 40.47% to 2.4 million comparing with the same period of last year, accounting for 54.09% of the total inbound tourists; and the number of tourists from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan was 2 million, accounting for 45.91% of the total.
 
The inbound tourism market has basically formed a new pattern with Asian visitors as the main body, European and the American visitors as the two wings, and Australian, African, and Central American ones as the multiple points. The number of Asian tourists was over 1.7 million, grew by 73.07%; that of the major European tourist sources increased in a round way, with a total of 358,700 European tourists, up 8.73%. The following countries account for the top ten visitor numbers to Hunan: the Republic of Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, the United States, Indonesia, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and Germany. The numbers were 800,600, 172,000, 168,200, 144,900, 103,500, 88,500, 76,800, 69,800, 65,100, and 65,100 respectively.
 
The average length of inbound tourist stay shows a gradual upward trend. From January to November, the inbound tourists stayed an average of 2.34 days, 0.4 days longer than that of 2017 (1.94 days).
