In 2020, Hunan’s civilian vehicles increased steadily, with the number of newly registered ones further growing. According to the Hunan Statistics Bureau, by the end of 2020, Hunan had more than 15.4 million civilian vehicles, an 8% increase year on year. There were 3,125 newly registered vehicles on an average day, 669 more than the previous year.
Among the civilian vehicles, nearly 9.57 million were motor vehicles, 62% of the total and increasing by 9.3%. The number of passenger and freight vehicles was respectively over 8.58 million and 895,300, up 9.3% and 9.5%. The private cars amounted to 8.9 million, rising 9.5%.
By the end of 2020, 7 of Hunan’s 13 cities and 1 prefecture – Changsha, Changde, Huaihua, Shaoyang, Yueyang, Hengyang, and Yongzhou – had more than one million civilian vehicles each. Changsha had more than 2.83 million motor vehicles, increasing by 7%. More than 10% increase was seen in Xiangxi, Yongzhou, Loudi, Hengyang, Shaoyang, Huaihua, Zhangjiajie, Yueyang, and Chenzhou.
