Hunan Foreign Trade up 6.9% in the First Three Quarters

Changsha Customs statistics showed that, in the first three quarters, the total import and export value of Hunan Province was 335.92 billion yuan, an increase of 6.9% over the same period last year. Of the total, exports were 222.59 billion yuan, an increase of 0.5%, and imports were 113.33 billion yuan, an increase of 22.4%. In the first three quarters, Hunan’s imports and exports reached 83.61 billion yuan, 124.46 billion yuan, and 127.85 billion yuan respectively, representing a quarter-over-quarter increase.

The foundation of foreign trade products is solid, and trade modes are improving. In the first three quarters, the imports and exports of general trade were 245.46 billion yuan, an increase of 5%, accounting for 73.1% of the provincial total in the same period.

Regional cooperation is closer, with more trading partners involved. In the first three quarters, the ASEAN was Hunan's largest trading partner, with an import and export volume of 57.46 billion yuan, an increase of 34.1%. During the same period, Hunan's trade with Hong Kong and the EU (27 countries, excluding the United Kingdom) declined; trade with the USA was 31.31 billion yuan, an increase of 9.9%.

The imports and exports of private enterprises have increased significantly, playing a bigger role as an anchor in foreign trade. In the first three quarters, the foreign trade volume of private enterprises was 261.52 billion yuan, an increase of 9.7%, accounting for 77.9% of the provincial total in the same period, an increase of 1.8 percentage points from the same period last year.

Mechanical and electrical products are main exported products. In the first three quarters, Hunan exported 98.89 billion yuan of mechanical and electrical products, an increase of 4.3%, accounting for 44.4% of the provincial total in the same period; the exports of high-tech products (which overlap with mechanical and electrical products) reached 31.03 billion yuan, an increase of 6.5%.

Imports of bulk commodities such as mechanical and electrical products and iron ore saw a stable growth. In the first three quarters, Hunan imported 47.73 billion yuan of mechanical and electrical products, an increase of 18.9%, and accounting for 42.1% of the provincial total in the same period. Meanwhile, 20.85 million tons of iron ore were imported, an increase of 14.7%; 2.42 million tons of grain was imported, an increase of 200%.
