Under the regular COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control situation, this year’s college entrance examination (gaokao) preparation work is facing unprecedented pressure and challenges. The Hunan Provincial Enrollment Committee held the 2020 gaokao safety scheduling meeting on June 30. It asked to further investigate the risks faced by work on both gaokao safety and epidemic prevention and control, to ensure a smooth and safe gaokao.

According to the statistics, in 2020 Hunan has a total of 536,000 candidate students, 37,000 more than the previous year and an increase of 7.4%. In addition to candidates admitted in advance, and those enrolled to higher vocational colleges via separate process, there were about 407,000 candidates to sit in the exam, an increase of 15,000 over the previous year. Hunan’s 13 cities and 1 prefecture have 123 testing areas, 272 testing sites, and 14,400 testing rooms, with nearly 50,000 staff.
