According to the requirements of the medical treatment team under the national joint prevention and control mechanism for the COVID-19 outbreak, the Hunan Health Commission assembled the medical team instantly.
At about 5 p.m. on February 21, the two groups of medical workers boarded a high-speed train for Wuhan to aid the epidemic control efforts there.
The first medical team, led by Luo Zhihong, CPC Hunan Brain Hospital Committee secretary, has 174 members, including 2 administrators, 52 doctors, and 120 nursing staff. The medical personnel are from 18 secondary and tertiary public hospitals and 4 social medical institutions, like Hunan Want Want Hospital and Xiangya BoAi Rehabilitation Hospital in Changsha, Yueyang, Changde, Zhangjiajie and Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture.
They all have work experience in respiratory medicine or critical care medicine, and infectious diseases. The average age is 32 years old, with the oldest being 52 and the youngest being 21. Thirty-three have senior professional titles.
Another 50-member team is to provide mental health services, led by Wang Xiaoping, director of National Clinical Research Center for Mental Disorders and professor of Central South University Second Xiangya Hospital. They are from Hunan Provincial Center for Mental Health (co-established by Central South University Second Xiangya Hospital and Hunan Brain Hospital), the Fourth People’s Hospital of Huaihua and Shaoyang Brain Hospital. Twenty-one of them are Party members and 14 have senior professional titles.
To date, Hunan has dispatched a total of 1,333 medical personnel in 15 groups to Hubei. They have been firmly committing themselves into the resistance war against the epidemic in Hubei. They fully demonstrate the hardworking, persistent and patient spirit of the “Hunan Medical Army”.
