The China Construction Industry Science and Technology Innovation and the 2018-2019 China Construction Engineering Luban Prize (National Excellent Project) Awards Conference were held in Beijing on December 10. Aizhai Grand Suspension Bridge constructed by the Hunan Road & Bridge Construction Group Co., Ltd. (HNRB) won the Luban Prize.

The Luban Prize is the highest honor for construction quality project in China, known as the “Oscar” of the Chinese construction industry. The award offered to Aizhai Bridge gives full affirmation to the project’s engineering quality and technological level, fully embodying the HNRB’s construction strength. Up to now, HNRB has won 5 Luban Prizes, 2 National Quality Engineering Gold Awards, and 8 Zhan Tianyou Awards.

The Aizhai Grand Suspension Bridge is a key project of the Jishou-Chadong Expressway. It started construction in October 2007 and was opened to traffic in March 2012. The bridge spans 355 meters above the Aizhai Grand Canyon. Four world records were created:
-The span between the two towers of the bridge is 1,176 meters, ranking the first worldwide;
-The first to use the structural design that completely separates the tower and beam;
-The first to adopt the rock anchor sling structure, with carbon fiber as the prestressed tendon; and,
-The first to use the “track-cable slip method” to erect the steel truss.
