Xiangjiang New Area and Schaeffler to Launch Practical Cooperation

The Hunan Xiangjiang New Area Management Committee and the Schaeffler Group signed an investment project agreement on November 21. The two sides, based on Changsha’s industrial cluster advantages and Schaeffler Group’s technical expertise and research and development strength, will promote construction of intelligent connected vehicle industrial ecosystem in the area. 
Hu Zhongxiong, deputy secretary of the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee, Changsha mayor, and secretary of the CPC Working Committee of the Xiangjiang New Area; and Zhang Yilin, CEO of Schaeffler Greater China; Zhang Zhiping, deputy director of the Hunan Industry and Information Technology Department; and, Zhu Jian, deputy secretary of the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee, attended the signing ceremony. 
On September 6 this year, witnessed by Chinese Premier and German Chancellor, the Hunan Xiangjiang New Area Management Committee signed a cooperation framework agreement with Schaeffler Group at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The investment project agreed this time marks a new start of the substantial cooperation between the two sides. Ling Qinjie, member of the CPC Working Committee and deputy director of the Xiangjiang New Area Management Committee, and Dirk Kesselgruber, head of the business division Chassis Systems at Schaeffler signed the agreement. As agreed, Schaeffler will set up a wholly-owned company and Schaeffler Greater China’s second R&D center, also the Schaeffler (China) Intelligent Driving Research Institute, at the Xiangjiang New Area. It will introduce the “Space Drive” technology, Mover platform system, an intelligent steering module, and related mechatronic products and technologies to the area. The new research institute will, based on Schaeffler’s global R&D network and technical specialty, coordinate with Schaeffler’s regional R&D center in Anting, Shanghai, in research and development of future intelligent driving technology. This indicates that Schaeffler’s core intelligent driving technology and product are delivered to  China.
