The customs data shows that, during the past three quarters, Hunan’s imported aquatic and marine products totaled 18,000 tons, increasing by 22% over last year. The import value was 1.08 billion, registering a growth of 1.2 times. The average price was 60.4 yuan/kg, a 1.8-fold increase over last year.
Canada and Vietnam were the two major sources, with Boston lobsters as the major imported products. More than 80% imported aquatic and marine products were transported by air. During the first three quarters, the aquatic and marine product imports by airfreight reached 8,956.9 tons, a growth of 1.5 times, and accounting for 50.2% of Hunan’s total imported aquatic and marine products. Last year, the Changsha Huanghua International Airport opened all-cargo flights to Dacca, Manila, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, and North America. This year, it added cargo charted flights to Sapporo of Japan, and Canada.
The Changsha Customs announced that, the Changsha Huanghua Comprehensive Bonded Zone was designated as an imported aquatic and marine products supervision site recently. The third phase of its international freight depot is on the schedule. This will further boost Hunan’s aquatic and marine product import.
Aquatic and marine products are perishable, thus holding high requirements for storage and transportation conditions. In order to expand supervision area and stock, the Changsha Huanghua International Airport designed a special inspection site and a cold chain warehouse for aquatic and marine products in its third phase international cargo depot plan, with an annual capacity of 140,000 tons.
