Hunan Delegation Visits Latin American Countries

Li Weiwei, CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee chairwoman, led a delegation to the Mexico State of the United Mexican States, Colon Province of the Republic of Panama, and Havana Province of the Republic of Cuba between October 16 and 27, 2019. She and her entourage made the trip at the invitation of those three places, to conduct exchanges on agriculture, economy, and trade.

During her stay in Mexico, Li met with Eruviel Ávila Villegas, Mexico Federal Senate Maritime Commission president and Asian-Pacific-African Affairs Commission member, and exchanged views on cooperation in agriculture, economy and trade. She went to Mexico State to attend the Hunan Gold Group “Mexico State Circular Economy Industrial Park Project Matchmaking Conference”. She said, “The park is expected to give full play to its demonstration role. With more Hunan enterprises settling down here, other provincial enterprises will want to settle down here in the park and other places in Mexico.” The CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee would actively provide advice and suggestions to the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and the People’s Government of Hunan Province, to pragmatically promote industrial park construction, she added.

The delegation meets with Iracema de Dale, Colon governor.
 
The Colon Free Trade Zone, Panama, following Hong Kong, China, is the world’s second largest free trade zone. Li Weiwei successively met with Zulay Rodríguez Lu, first vice president of the National Assembly of Panama; Iracema de Dale, Colon governor; and, Giovanni Ferrari, Colon Free Trade Zone general manager. They discussed exchanges and cooperation in agriculture, economy, and trade. The delegation also visited local Chinese companies in the Colon Free Trade Zone. Li noted that it is necessary to learn the advanced management mode from the Colon Free Trade Zone to promote park construction in Hunan. She expected the local Chinese merchants to play a linking role for Hunan enterprises to “go global”.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cuba. The only intergovernmental cooperation project between China and Cuba in the field of biomedicine, “China-Cuba Biotechnology Joint Innovation Center”, has been settled in Yongzhou, Hunan. During her stay in Cuba, Li Weiwei held talks with Ruben, vice president of Cuba's Chamber of Commerce, and Tatiana Viera Hernandez, vice president of the Provincial Assembly of People´s Power in Havana. The delegation also participated in the “China-Cuba Biotechnology Joint Innovation Center Project Promotion Conference”, and witnessed its first industrialization project- classical swine fever vaccine contract signing ceremony. Li promised that the CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee would fully practice its duty to communicate with all levels of governmental and provincial science and technology departments, and further assist in the project implementation.

Zhu Qingqiao, Chinese ambassador to Mexico; Liu Bo, temporary charge d'affaires of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Panama; and, Chen Xi, Chinese ambassador to Cuba, met with the delegation. Relevant officials of the Hunan Provincial Department of Commerce and the Hunan Provincial Department of Agriculture accompanied the delegation on the tour.
