The 21st Central China (Hunan) Agricultural Expo opens in Changsha on October 25, 2019.

The 21st Central China (Hunan) Agricultural Expo opened in Changsha on October 25, 2019. Xu Dazhe, CPC Hunan Provincial Committee deputy secretary and Hunan governor, announced the opening of the expo, and met with participant representatives.  
 
Provincial leaders Wu Lan, Huang Guanchun, and Dai Daojin, and vice chairwomen of the CPPCC Henan Provincial Committee Zhou Chunyan were present. 
 
Zhang Hecheng, director of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Sui Zhongcheng, vice governor of Hunan Province, addressed the opening ceremony. 
 
The distinguished guests presented also included Zhang Yuxiang, chairwoman of the Chinese Agri-produce Marketing Association (CHAMA), and Shen Guofang, president of the China Foundation for International Studies (CFIS). 
 
Wang Qun, secretary general of the Hunan Provincial People’s Government, presided over the ceremony.  
 
Governor Xu Dazhe welcomed all the guests to Hunan to seek common development and renew friendship. Governor Xu said that this year is the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Standing at a new historical starting point, Hunan is thoroughly implementing the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and fully carrying out the innovation-oriented opening-up strategy. 
 
He added Hunan is taking full advantage of its favorable location on the transitional “belt” connecting the eastern coastal area with the central and western areas, and in the junction “zone” between the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the Coastal Economic Belt, and its improving integrated transport network. The province continues to expand high-level opening-up and deepen exchanges and cooperation with ‘Belt and Road’ countries and regions. 
 
“Hunan is China's major agricultural province and its rice production has long ranked first in the country. It has unique advantages in agricultural science and technology, and agricultural machinery and equipment. The expo has been successfully held for 20 sessions, and its influence has continued to expand. It has become an important platform for displaying new agricultural technologies, products and achievements in central China and foreign countries,” Xu remarked. 
 
“The expo theme this year is highly associated with the development concept of giving priority to ecology, agriculture and rural areas. I hope that we would exchange experiences in modern agricultural development, discuss agricultural cooperation, and carry out practical agricultural cooperation. I expect all of you to have a deep understanding of Hunan and promote exchanges and cooperation between Hunan and other countries in the fields of economy, trade, industry, science and technology, tourism, and culture, to leverage our comparative strengths and achieve mutual benefit,” he said. 
 
Zhang Hecheng mentioned that, over the past decades, Hunan has been persistently implementing poverty alleviation based on modern agriculture and industrial development. Notable progress has been achieved in the issues relating to agriculture, rural areas, and rural residents. This year’s expo makes innovations in industry-based and consumption-oriented targeted poverty relief, which will facilitate Hunan’s poverty alleviation and rural vitalization. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences will support Hunan’s modernization agriculture and rural areas. 
 
Vice Governor Sui said that, the expo is a major exposition on agricultural brands in China. It has facilitated agricultural exchange and cooperation. Hunan will do its utmost to make it a good platform for experience sharing, and implementation of cooperative mechanism and results, so as to promote agricultural exchange and cooperation to a higher level. 
 
Themed “Green and Brand, Communication and Cooperation”, the expo will last for five days (from Oct. 25 to 29). Various activities will be held, such as foreign ambassadors’ expo tour; promotion of high quality agricultural products of Hunan and Jiangxi border areas; and, poverty alleviation cause marketing. More than 1,000 enterprises from 11 provinces and 38 countries are participating.
