Central Funds Issued for Conserving Hunan’s 105 Traditional Chinese Villages

The Hunan Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development announced on October 21 that, the Ministry of Finance’s special fund of 315 million CNY for Hunan’s rural environment improvement in 2019 will be used to conserving 105 traditional Chinese villages in Hunan. They are: Kaihui Village in Kaihui Town, Changsha County; Tongpen Village in Sanjia Township, Lianyuan; and, Pingnian Village in Aizhai Town, Jishou. The counties where the traditional villages are located will get three million CNY for each. 
Among the 105 traditional villages, 51 are located in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture; 20 are in Huaihua; and, 15 are in Zhangjiajie. 
The authority required that, the central fund projects should be carried out in line with the approved plans and demand schedules. In addition to project demands and fund factors, several aspects should be considered, including traditional architecture protection and utilization; disaster prevention and reduction facility; historic environment elements restoration; public hygiene facility, infrastructure, and public environment improvement; historic and cultural relics protection; and, representative national intangible cultural heritage conservation. Unrealistic renovation at village entrance is prohibited. Construction of oversize square, and large scale recreational and tourist facility is not approved.
