On September 8, world-famous musician Tan Dun signed a cooperation agreement with Hunan TV & Broadcasting Intermediary Co. Ltd. (Hunan TV & Broadcasting) to build a sound museum in Meixi Lake, Changsha.
The sound museum is a TV documentary produced and broadcast by Hunan TV, and a physical building. Tan Dun, along with several sound seekers, will travel all over the world in five years to collect traditional sounds from different countries, and finally produce a soundscape integrating video, exhibition, and live performance. The museum is built based on high technology and new arts, and helps pass on traditional sounds to the next generation.
Under the agreement, Hunan TV & Broadcasting will be Tan’s exclusive agency to expand his art activities, educational practices and public welfare undertakings in Greater China (a geographic area that shares commercial and cultural ties dominated by ethnic Han Chinese).
