A China-Africa Peace and Security Forum will be held from July 14 to 20, according to Ren Guoqiang, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense speaking in Beijing on Thursday.
With a theme of "Cooperating Hand-in-Hand to Consolidate Security", the forum will focus on the building of a China-Africa community with a shared future and common security, the spokesperson announced during a routine press conference.
Invited delegates from different parties, including defense and military principals from African countries and the African Union, will have in-depth discussions on topics such as African security, regional hot-spot issues, African independence security capacity building, and China-Africa peace and security cooperation, Ren said.
Peace and security are high on the agenda of China-Africa cooperation and is among the "eight major initiatives" announced by President Xi Jinping during last year's Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
The other seven major initiatives that China and Africa are working on include industrial promotion, infrastructure connectivity, trade facilitation, green development, capacity building, health care and people-to-people exchanges.
Also, under the FOCAC framework, the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo was convened in Changsha, capital of Hunan province, on June 25.
The forum on peace and security will help provide platform for China and African countries to enhance exchanges and cooperation, and bring more global attention and support to peace and security in Africa, Ren said.
