The first Exchange Meeting on Exemplary Building of Hunan Expressway Centennial Quality Projects was held on July 26. It was learned that as of the end of this June, a total of 28.32 billion yuan was invested in highways that are under construction in Hunan Province, accounting for 44.6% of the annual planned investment, which is 63.5 billion yuan in total. The investment amount was 23 percentage points higher than the previous year, hitting a record high.

Five expressways, with a total length of 247 km, are planned to be open to traffic this year, including 93-km-long Pingjiang-Wushi Expressway, 83-km-long Wushi-Yiyang Expressway, 43-km-long Ningxiang-Shaoshan Expressway, 21-km-long Jiangbei-Ganshan Expressway, and 7-km-long Chenglingji Expressway. Currently the projects are progressing smoothly. Three expressway projects are scheduled to start construction this year, including Leiyang-Yizhang Expressway Extension Project, Jinyushi-Liling Expressway Extension Project, and Guidong-Xintian Expressway.

Luo Heng, deputy director of the Hunan Provincial Department of Transport, said that the department has been vigorously promoting high-quality development of expressways in recent years. Luo added that this year innovations have been made in construction of expressways based on respective characteristics. The Jingzhou-Liping Expressway takes the lead in fine design and implements the system of "holding a pre-shift meeting before safety production, and filling safety examination form, dangerous operation form, and emergency disposal form". An innovation was made in bridge construction along the Zhijiang-Tongren Expressway and intelligentized and mechanized equipment was adopted in tunnel construction. A standardized, automated, and intelligentized construction management was promoted in Pingjiang-Wushi-Yiyang Expressway and Hengyang-Yongshou Expressway.

The mileage of highways in Hunan exceeds 7,000 km. There are 23 highway projects under construction, with a total length of 1,717 km and a total investment of 259.86 billion yuan.
