[Physical Culture] Meishan Martial Art

Meishan Martial Art is a fighting style that has developed in Hunan for centuries. It was originated from the period of ancestor Chiyou in ancient times, featuring with its military functions and fighting-fit techniques to suit rough natural environment and frequent wars that time.

Meishan Martial Art has complicated taolu, or forms, which are practical and aggressive. It focuses on strong fists and palms techniques, and stable footwork, being expert in both attacking and defending.

In recent years, Meishan Martial Art in Xinhua, Hunan, has won numerous honors in domestic and international competitions and events. In 1992, Xinhua County was titled "County of Chinese Martial Arts" by the General Administration of Sport of China. In 2014, Meishan Martial Art was listed among the 4th batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritages.
