Duration: Feb. 9th – 10th, 2017
Venue: Changle Town, Miluo City

The First Hunan Taigushi Cultural Festival will take place from Feb. 9 to 10 in Changle Town, Miluo City.

The event aims to promote traditional Chinese culture, and share the Taigushi performances around the province. It is under the auspices of the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture, and co-organized by the Culture, Radio, Press and Publication Bureau of Yueyang City, and the People’s Government of Miluo.

The Hunan Taigushi Performance League will be founded during the festival.

Taigushi is a folk performance integrating story-telling, painting, opera, silk figure, paper art, and acrobatics. Children dress up as heroes and heroines in traditional Chinese fairy tales and local operas, and perform on planks carried by adults. It has been approved by the State Council as a national intangible cultural heritage.

The most representative schools of such folk art in Hunan are Yueyang’s Miluo Changle Taigushi (national level), Chenzhou’s Yizhang Yegushi (national level), Loudi’s Lianyuan Zhumei Taigushi (national level), Yongzhou’s Huangyangsi Zhagushi (provincial level), and Yiyang’s Taojiang Majitang Zhagushi (provincial level).

Taigushi inheritors from Chenzhou, Lianyuan, Yongzhou, and Yiyang will be invited to participate in the event, to showcase and spread Taigushi culture, strengthen trans-regional exchanges and cooperation on Taigushi culture, and promote its innovative development.
