Second National University Student Bird Protection Camp Kicks off in Nanyue

On the morning of June 23, more than 100 environmental protection volunteers from all over the country gathered in Nanyue Hengshan Scenic Area. They came here to participate in the launching ceremony of the Second National University Student Bird Protection Camp and the First Award Ceremony held in Nanyue Temple.

At the ceremony, volunteers pledged for migratory birds protection on the site. The Hunan Provincial Forestry Department head presented a flag to nine university student teams. The Hunan Buddhism and Charity Foundation and the Nanyue Buddhist Association made donation for migratory bird protection and wildlife rescue projects. Four university student bird protection teams, including the Yuyang Association of Lingnan Normal University, were awarded as excellent groups for bird protection.

There was a photo exhibition on migratory birds and wildlife protection organized by the Nanyue Hengshan National Nature Reserve Management Bureau. It attracted many visitors. After the ceremony, the Nanyue environmental protection volunteers and campers also visited the scenic area, and issued bird-caring and protection proposals and leaflets to tourists and local residents.

The event was instructed by the Forestry Department of Hunan Province and the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan “Resource-saving and Environment-Friendly Society” Construction Management Committee of Hunan Province, organized by the Hunan Environmental Protection Volunteer Services Federation and the Hunan Buddhism and Charity Foundation, and undertaken by the Nanyue Buddhist Association. The activity was also strongly supported by the Wildlife Conservation Association of Hunan Province, the CPC Nanyue District Committee, and the Nanyue District People's Government.
