In recent years, Hunan has been vigorously responding to “The Belt and Road” Initiative. More friendly contacts and exchanges between Hunan and African countries have been made. Fruitful results have been achieved:

In February 2017, a group of 23 people from an art troupe of the Hunan Vocational College of Art went to Tunisia to perform for the overseas “Happy Chinese Spring Festival” event. They traveled for over 2,000 kilometers in 5 cities, including Kairouan, Duz, Gabes, Nabour, and Tunisia, where they showed traditional Chinese opera, dance, acrobatics, and folk music. Their performances gave the Tunisian people the chance to feel the unique charm of the Chinese Spring Festival. And the friendship between the people of the two countries have been enhanced.

In February of this year, the “Huxiang Charm: Hunan Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition” opened at the National Library of Morocco. This exhibition was hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Morocco, the Moroccan Culture and Information Department, and the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture. More than 40 works by seven Hunan calligraphers and painters were exhibited. The daily average number of visitors reached about 1,200.

Universities in Hunan have set up Confucius Institutes in Uganda, Liberia, and DR Congo. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Confucius Institute at Liberia, which was set up by the Changsha University of Science and Technology. The University has sent a total of 28 international Chinese teachers and volunteers. Nearly 10,000 students have been trained in the Institute.

In 2017, there were 78,109 trips to Hunan made by African tourists. The tourism exchanges between Hunan and Africa continued to deepen.
