Zhang Xuqun, aged 74, was making the alleged huge legendary sea-turtle.

When asked about Emperor Yan, he answered that he had no idea of him. When asked the reason why all the water lights are green-colored, he replied that Emperor Shennong was a green dragon.
People next to the Jianshe Village also make animal shaped lights, and they have been choosing animals in the mountain as their models.
The vivid Bull King Buddha

Up to date, the custom of worshipping the Bull King Buddha on the eighth day of April on the lunar calendar is still popular among Daping Villagers.

Every January 15 and April 8 according to the Chinese lunar calendar, people from Daping Village maintain the tradition of dancing "bulls fighting" and "barbarian dance". The former is a dance where two men dressed like a bull mock a bull fight. The latter is a dance in which a man and a woman dressed in straws like primitive people walk or dance while driving a "bull"-a man in a
costume of a bull. Mr. Yang Guosheng believes this to be relevant to Emperor Yan since Emperor Yan was said to have a human body with a bull's head.
In Daping Village, Zhang Meixiu and her fellow villagers dressed in straws dancing the barbarian Dance.

A great many small God of Earth temples are found in the following three villages: Daping, Jianshe and Gaotuan.
There is a small earth temple in the front or back of over 70% of the households. Mr. Yang explained that the God of Earth is Shennong and the practice of Huitong people worshipping the God of Earth is a tradition passed down from thousands of years ago to worship Emperor Yan or Shennong. His understanding is based on A Game to the Moon of
the Book of Rites in which the God of Earth is also called Shennong (the God of Agriculture), since he was mainly in charge of sowing and reaping.
Is Huitong really the hometown of Emperor Yan? Different people have different answers to this question.

Some people believe Emperor Yan does exist in history while the name doesn't refer to one single person. Yan was the leader of a tribe which lasted eight generations. In other words, there were eight emperors of the Yan tribe. The Emperor Yan of Lianshan should be the descendant of Yu Wang, the eighth Emperor Yan. His offspring are scattered here and there, although they can't claim themselves to be emperors any longer. Lianshanyi was also written by his descendants.

Others claim that the fact that Emperor Yan was born in Huitong County bears great significance for research.

Despite that the geographical features of Lianshan in Huitong bear a strong resemblance to the historical descriptions of the birthplace of Emperor Yan, isn't it possible that there might have been some changes to his birthplace over such a long period of more than 5,000 years?

So after all is Huitong is the real hometown of Emperor Yan?.

That is up for you to decide.
