Jingzhou Miao Geteng Songs Performed at Italian Almond Blossom Festival
On March 4, a delegation performing Miao Geteng songs from Jingzhou, Hunan was invited to participate in a world intangible cultural exhibition, which is part of the 73rd Almond Blossom Festival. The delegation staged dances and songs accompanied by lusheng (a reed-pipe wind instrument) at Archaeological and Landscape Park of the Valley of the Temples, Agrigento, Sicily, Italy. Their performances were popular with tourists from all over the world.
The annual festival aims to enhance the artistic expressions that belong to the cultural tradition of the peoples. Those events that have been recognized by UNESCO as a "heritage of humanity" are the focus. This year, the festival were scheduled to be held from March 3 to 11, 2018.
The world intangible cultural exhibition was attended by performance teams from 26 countries and regions. Jingzhou delegation was the only Chinese team taking part in the event.
On March 4 afternoon, 16 performers of the delegation presented five lusheng related performances and Geteng songs. Nearly 100 visitors joined in the performances.
The delegation will stage folk performances including toasting songs, tea-themed songs, and folk songs in the following events.
Geteng songs of Miao nationality in Jingzhou is a kind of multi-voice folk song without instrumental accompaniment and conductor. It is praised as "the sound of nature" and "the living fossil of national music".
