On June 22, more than 200 distinguished guests from 43 international sister cities and institutions of higher learning of 20 countries, such as Australia, France, Japan, etc. arrived in Changsha to attend the "2010 China Hunan International Sister Cities Cooperation Forum & International Sister Cities Conference". Xu Shousheng, deputy secretary of the Hunan Provincial CPC Committee and acting governor of Hunan Province, met with the delegates led by Ted Samaras, president of the Annapolis-Changsha Friendship Association that evening.
Xu briefed economic and social development of Hunan Province as well as Hunan's improvement on opening-up. As he introduced, 45 of the World Top 500 enterprises have made investment or started business in Hunan up to the end of 2009. Besides, Hunan has established sister city relationship with 54 cites of 24 countries throughout the world, built sister city intention relationship, friendly cooperation relationship and friendly economic and trade partnership with 109 cities, and employed 26 delegates engaged in international friendly exchanges. With the acceleration of opening-up to the world, remarkable progress has been made to Hunan's export-oriented economy, which greatly speeded up the economic and social development of the whole province.
Xu extended warm welcome to all international friends and expected the exchanges and communication at this forum for win-win cooperation and development in various fields.
Ted Samaras stated that thanks to the friendly ties with Changsha, Annapolis has benefited a lot from the cooperation with Hunan in such fields as environmental protection, education and medical care. This forum proved the determination and effective efforts of Chinese Government on strengthening international cooperation, which will surely further promote the friendly relationship of China with all countries in the world.
