The Songya Lake International Friendship Forest Park is intended to be built into a platform for displaying the achievements attained in the international friendship city cooperation and a base for international exchanges. It is planned to plant around 500 trees in the park. The newly planted trees represent peace, friendship and cooperation.
Guo Kailang, vice governor of the Hunan Provincial People's Government, and Li Xiaolin, secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group and vice president of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), jointly unveiled the monument of the Songya Lake International Friendship Forest, and joined around 100 international friends in planting 60 plus friendship trees in Changsha County on June 23.
While planting trees, the foreign friends chatted pleasantly with one another over topics ranging from forest planting to climate change, from economic and trade cooperation to environmental protection. Different languages resounded throughout the Songya Lake, and the atmosphere was very warm and pleasant. Matsukizono Tomio, vice mayor of Kagoshima, Japan, excitedly promised that he will plant another osmanthus (tree with pleasant fragrance) in his own garden so that the two trees will grow together despite the distance, symbolizing the evergreen friendship between the two countries.
