The ISO/TC 264 technical committee held an international working conference in Changsha on April 10. The committee specializes in standardization in the field of fireworks, including quality control, definitions, terminology, classification, categorization, labelling, test methods and basic safety requirements. Experts from Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, as well as Spain, France, and Israel, discussed and revised the test methods for determination of specific chemical substances, and the firework displays general guidance. Nine of the ten standards for the test methods were developed by China. The general guidance was based on Chinese standards.

Founded in 2012, ISO/TC 264 has published 10 fireworks standards, which play a significant role in the international fireworks.

Fireworks and crackers is a traditional competitive industry of Hunan. The output value reached 35 billion CNY last year, half of the national total. Fireworks and crackers exports amounted to 3.27 billion CNY, 60% of the national total. “Hunan fireworks” has become a global calling card of "Made in Hunan".

Hunan focuses on five orientations – "environment-friendly materials; safe displays; advanced technology; convenient transportation; and, universally adaptive standards", and integrated modern and conventional technologies. A complete international standard system has been established covering the whole industrial chain from production, to storage, and displays. Hunan's efforts facilitated a sustainable and sound development of fireworks industry.

The experts discussed the Chinese proposed Fireworks -Test Methods for Determination of Specific Chemical Substances (ISO 22863), and the Firework Displays - General Guidance (ISO 21583) based on Chinese national standards. Key technical details have been confirmed, which will boost an early publishing of related international standards.
