In the first three quarters, Hunan provincial cultural enterprises above designated size achieved operating revenue of 298.7 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 12%. The growth rate was 0.6 and 1.9 percentage points higher than the national average and the same period last year respectively. The Hunan Provincial Bureau of Statistics released the data on November 8, 2017.

Among the three major cultural industries, the manufacturing part took the lead in operating revenue growth, surpassing 230 billion yuan. The growth rate was 13.5% over the same period of the previous year, accounting for 77.1% of the provincial total. The operating revenue of the wholesale and retail, and the service industries respectively reached 24.9 billion and 43.3 billion yuan.

The cultural enterprise development level varies among cities in Hunan. The average operating revenue of cultural enterprises in Changsha, Zhuzhou, and Xiangtan cities was 124.96 million yuan, 25.27 million yuan higher than the provincial average. The average revenues of those in the Dongting Lake area, the western Hunan area, and the southern Hunan area were 85.75 million yuan, 48.79 million yuan, and 86.8 million yuan respectively, lower than the provincial average.

The data also shows that while the overall cultural industry in Hunan developed rapidly, it encountered three major constraints on industrial transformation and upgrading. That is, the industrial development driving force was “broken off”; the market entities scaled down; and, the industrial development quality was not good enough.
