Hunan Takes Effective Measures to Improve Xiangjiang River

The CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and the Hunan Provincial People’s Government have upheld the principle of “Pristine waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets” since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012. Xiangjiang River protection and improvement has been included in Hunan’s No. 1 Project. Two “Three-Year Action Plans” were implemented to improve Xiangjiang River water resource control, flood discharge, and navigation. The water quality has been improved gradually.

 

The photo taken on September 10 shows Xiangjiangyuan National Forest Park in Lanshan County. About 10,333 hectares of forestry in the park is incorporated into the water conservation forest core areas, in order to improve the ecological carrying capacity and water quality of the origin of Xiangjiang River.

The photo taken on September 16 shows the confluence of Lianshui River (a tributary of Xiangjiang River) and Xiangjiang River in Xiangtan County. The county launches trials to turn marginal farmland into forests or wetlands, and protect plant species. The water environment here has been improved.

The photo taken on August 31 shows 20-ha heavily polluted soils at Shuikoushan Mines, Changning City, are improved.

The photo taken on September 5 shows the Centian River reservoir expansion project in Jianghua Yao Autonomous County. It is Hunan’s largest water conservancy project under construction.

The photo taken on August 19 shows Yueyang Tower Scenic Spot at East Dongting Lake, Yueyang City. Xiangjiang River runs through Yueyang to Dongting Lake, then pours into the Yangtze River. The city endeavors to save energy and reduce emissions, which contribute to improving Dongting Lake water environment.

 

The photo taken on August 29 shows pristine Mishui River Wantou Isle section, Yanglin Town, Hengdong County. The county implements a Three-Year Action Plan to protect Mishui River, and takes the lead in Hunan to manage both the mainstream and tributaries.

 

The photo taken on August 16 shows the relocating Qiangshuitang Old Industrial Base in Shifeng District, Zhuzhou City.

 

The photo taken on August 23 shows Xiangjiang River flowing through downtown Changsha at sunset. The water quality of Xiangjiang River Changsha section has been improved.

 

The photo taken on August 29 at Xiangjiang River Henghang section shows a boat passes by Shigu Academy. In recent years, the city has endeavored to protect and improve water environment. The total pollutant emissions have been reduced, especially heavy metal emissions.
