In 2011, Hunan's industry enjoyed speedy escalation. The added value of the province's industry above designated size reached 812.276 billion yuan, showing an increase of 20.1%. Growth was registered in the output growth of 74% of products. The sales rate came to 98.71% which marks an increase of 0.11 percentage over the same period of the previous year.
The industrial structure continued to improve. Among the industry above designated size, high-processing industry and high-tech industry realized an added value of 273.96 billion yuan and 42.985 billion yuan respectively, rising by 28.8% and 32.4%. The added value of the two sectors accounted for 33.7% and 5.3% among that of the industry above designated size, an increase of 1.7 and 0.7 percentage points. The output value of six high energy-consuming industries, namely, electric power, steel, nonferrous metals, building materials, chemical industry, and petrochemical industry, occupied 36.9% among the above designated size industry, down 0.4 percentage point. The research and development of new products was accelerated. The output value of new products reached 308.441 billion yuan, an increase of 24.1%, which accounted for 11.7% of the total increase.
The operation quality of industrial economy steadily improved. Industrial enterprises achieved better efficiency and lower energy consumption. From January to November, Hunan's industrial enterprises above designated size realized profits of 106.462 billion yuan, rising by 38.5%. The amount of the province's comprehensive energy consumption only increased 7.7% to 63.7954 million tons of standard coal, down 0.9 percentage point year on year.
